| 9ct Gold Cabochon Garnet & Diamond Pendant |
This is a rather rare and beautiful cabochon garnet pendant with a little diamond set fly on the front. The garnet is a gorgeous vibrant red colour set into solid yellow 9ct gold. The bug on the front is also made from 9ct yellow gold and is set with little old cut diamonds. The fly has one little leg missing, but this is only mentioned for accuracy as it does not alter the beautiful look of the pendant in any way.
The pendant is from the late Victorian period and insects were a regular subject of jewellery from this period. The pendant measures 2.5cm from the top of the bale to the base of the oval and is 1.2cm wide at it's widest point. The gold is not hallmarked, but has been tested as solid 9ct gold.
The pendant hangs on a more modern solid 9 carat gold chain and this is hallmarked with '9k' on the clasp. It measures 18"/45.5cm. |
