This is an absolutely stunning 9ct gold pendant from the late Victorian period, approximately 1880s/90s, and is a perfect example of the type of enamelling that was popular in the Arts & Crafts movement at the time. The enamel shows true skill and workmanship and displays the merging and subtle shading of two colours, green and lilac, both of which were popular colours in enamelling during this movement. It is in perfect condition depicting a beautiful flower with a natural, original pearl as the centre. The pearl has a good lustre and brings out the lilac tones in the enamel. The enamel flower leads to a claw set faceted pink ruby.

The Arts & Crafts movement was a backlash towards the industrial revolution of the moment and craftsmen went back to their routes learning artisan techniques. It was a reaction against the unexcepetional and mass produced jewellery of the time and generally, the jewellers that strove for this artistic integrity had little money, replacing large gemstones with other techniques, such as enamelling.

This pendant is entirely handmade, as was customary of jewellery from this movement. Both the pearl and the ruby measure 2.5mm in diameter. The pendant is hallmarked as 9ct gold on the centre back and is marvellous quality. It has a reasonable weight for a pendant of this nature. The pendant measures 3.5cm from the top of the bale to the base of the pendant and is 1.5cm wide.
