Antique Diamond Paste Marquise Ring
A beautiful ring from the Victorian period. The ring is made from 18ct gold and silver and is French in origin with the eagle head hallmark on the outside of the shank. It has been made in a pretty marquise shape; a beautiful elongated panel. It is set with old mine cut paste stones. Paste is a version of glass that has lead added, giving it a higher refractive index meaning that it sparkles like real gemstones. This example has been cut to imitate diamonds and shows lovely old mine cuts. The paste is lively, particularly the centre stone, and this ring is a pretty example of the craft.
