An awesome and unusual pendant from the early 20th Century, likely c1920s. The pendant is made from silver and is a sarcophagus. There is lovely detail in the silver for the interesting design synonymous with a sarcophagus and this has a hollow construction. This stands on top of a beautiful carved carnelian that has been set into the base. The carnelian has an intricate scarab carved into it and this would make a lovely impression for a wax seal.
This was likely made in the 1920s when the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922 made all things Egyptian very popular.
Details:
Materials - Silver (tested), Carnelian
Age - C1920s
Size - The seal measures approx 45mm high including the bail and the base measures 20.5mm by 15.5mm.
Condition - Very good. A little wear to the silver in places, commensurate with age. Some patina to the silver.
Weight - 8.5g
