Antique Seed Pearl Swallow & Heart Necklace

£0.00
sold out

A wonderful necklace from the turn of the last Century, c1900. The pendant is made from 9ct gold that has a lovely rosy tint as you would expect from gold from this era. It has a pretty swallow holding a heart in its beak. The swallow is set throughout with little seed pearls. These are all in fairly good order for their age with only a small hint of nacre loss here and there. The bird has a tiny garnet eye, which is a soft pink/red and hanging from his beak is a little puffed heart of a hollow construction. At the centre of the heart is a pearl in a star setting.

The swallow tends to symbolise good luck and can also represent success and hope. It was a common motif during this period and this example is lovely. The pendant hangs on a 9ct gold chain, which could be original to the piece as it is certainly a period chain and the gold colour is very much in keeping with the pendant. You can only remove this chain if you remove the clasp at the end as only the chain fits through the jump rings on the back of the birds wings. The bolt ring clasp is a 14kt replacement.

Details:

Age - C1900

Size - The pendant measures 38mm long from the top of the swallow tail to the tip of the heart. The chain is approximately 18” long
