Antique Shakudo Disc Earrings

£0.00
sold out

A wonderful pair of earrings from the late 19th Century. The earrings are wonderful panels of shakudo. The origins of shakudo are in Japan and the large discs are made from 4-10% gold and the remaining portion is copper. The damascenes are created with gold and silver inlay and often include pictures of nature and birds, as is the case here. The detail on these particular discs is exquisite. The earrings came to me as is, though I believe they have been adapted from buttons and given sterling silver fastenings and hooks.

Details:

Materials - Shakudo, Sterling Sliver

Age - Late 19th Century

Size - The discs measure approx 27mm in diameter excluding the hooks.

Condition - Very good. A little patina in the inlay, commensurate with age

Weight - 23.4g the pair. Fairly weighty in the ear, though not uncomfortable.
