Art Deco Iridescent Cicada Pendant
A wonderful statement pendant from the Art Deco period. The pendant is a lovely, large stylised cicada made from pressed glass. The glass has a pretty iridescence to the front giving the cicada a beautiful glow and there is lovely detail in the bug, particularly the wings. It is set in a silver frame. This is such a classically Art Deco piece and looks great on a long or short chain for an eye-catching necklace.
The glass is similar in ways to Favrile glass. This was traditionally a name for art glass produced at Tiffany furnaces known for its iridescent, shimmering surface. Favrile is loosely based on the old word ‘Fabrile’ meaning hand-made. This is not strictly an example of Favrile glass, though it follows a popular fashion at the time.
