A wonderful, large statement pendant. The pendant is made from sterling silver and holds a stunning Art Deco design of pietra dura. Pietra Dura is the technique of using semi-precious stones to create pretty designs and is often referred to as ‘painting in stone’. In this example the background is black onyx with mother-of-pearl and gemstones such as lapis lazuli and malachite, inlayed into the onyx.
The card design is so typical of the Art Deco period and depicts a favoured past-time of the era. The use of stones such as lapis lazuli and malachite are all representative of the period and the style is a step in a different direction compared with pietra dura from the Victorian era. It is more fun and playful.
