Art Deco Sarcophagus Telescopic Pencil

£350.00

A lovely example of this style of pencil from the Art Deco period. The pencil is hallmarked with Egyptian hallmarks for silver. It has hard to discern the exact town as the top of the mark is missing, though it looks to have a date letter ‘y’ dating it to 1923-4. The pendant hides a telescopic pencil, which appears if you pull the bail from the top. Whilst the top is extending, the bottom is also appearing. The mechanism works excellently and the pencil stays in place when required. The pencil also contains lead and writes.

The pendant has a matte gold overlay giving it an overall soft gold appearance. It has wonderful colourful enamel all around, which depicts a sarcophagus perfectly and the face has distinguished features. All things Egyptian became popular with the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922. This would have been an popular souvenir of that time.

The chain pictured is for display only.
