sold out

A stunning and rare necklace from the Early 20th Century. The necklace has a spectacular carved natural opal as the centrepiece. The opal has been cut into the shape of a Quan Yin. These are a beloved symbol from Buddhism and a prominent figure in Chinese mythology. Traditionally they are depicted as a young woman in white robes carrying a willow branch and she is known as the goddess of mercy. The name translates to ‘she who hears the sounds of the world’ and is a symbol of compassion. This beautiful example has been made into a necklace in antiquity and is all original. The gold is 15ct, marked with a little tab near the clasp of the curb chain, and is a lovely contrast to the subtle colours of the opal.
