A beautiful locket from the early 19th century. The locket is a pretty heart shaped carnelian set in a decorative gold surround. The gold tests as 15ct and gives the heart a wonderful chased border. The heart has two gold pins through the front that are now only decorative; perhaps it started life as a brooch? At the centre of the carnelian is a little circular locket. The locket opens on a hinge to the back of the heart and has original cut-outs inside. The heart hangs on a pair of 15ct gold chains that lead to a 9ct gold bail.
