Georgian Cherub Rebus Seal

A gorgeous and rare seal from the Georgian period. The seal is made from pinchbeck, a brass alloy that looks very similar to gold and was invented by Christopher Pinchbeck in the early 18th Century. This particular seal has been crafted in the shape of a cherub head and wings. The seal is a rebus seal; a pictogram puzzle that has been engraved into the white opaque glass. This particular puzzle reads ‘I love you’ with an eye, a cherub in the centre and a yew tree. It is in lovely condition and these lovely pieces of history are becoming harder and harder to find.

Size - 23mm high included the original twisted bail, by 15.5mm wide at the base.

Condition - Very good. Some wear to the pinchbeck, commensurate with age
