Georgian Double Sided Heart Locket
A gorgeous and simple locket from the end of the Georgian period, the early 19th Century. The locket tests as 9ct gold and has an interesting construction. It is a simple heart shaped gold frame with a hinge to one side at the centre top. The glass centrepiece hinges out from the frame (pushing gently from the front) and there is then a glass insert to the front of this. The glass insert has the reeded border attached and it lifts out with ease using a little dress pin.
The pieces fit together perfectly and stay securely in place. The larger gold frame acts as full security for the insert. This is such an interesting and intricate design that I have not seen before. You could place your own photos inside, back to back, to be viewed on both sides. A lovely and unusual example.
The chains pictured are for display only. If you have trouble understanding the fitting on arrival, I have a video to explain.
Details:
Materials - 9ct Gold (tested), Glass

Size - The heart measures approx 21mm long excluding the bail, by 20mm wide.
Condition - Excellent. Some remnants of lead on the underside of the insert around the reeded border, likely from the original construction. All elements are secure.
Weight - 3.73g
