A stunning pendant from the Georgian period, c1780s. The pendant has the most incredible mixed cut emeralds centring around geometric shapes; squares and rectangles. There is a larger emerald to the centre with a ‘swirl’ of emeralds fanning out in a pinwheel formation. To me, the pendant could represent a sun or a flower.
The pendant has a closed back setting of silver with a 9ct gold bail. The bail is original and has one rock crystal to the top whilst the other two stones are emeralds. All the stones in the ‘flower’ look to be original; I have found one that tests as paste, the others are all pale green emeralds. The paste was likely set at the time and believed to be a natural emerald in the parcel. This is a real stunner and a good size, giving it wonderful presence on the neck. It could be worn with a silver or gold chain.
