The prettiest egg locket I’ve had for a while. The locket is from the Georgian period and made from pinchbeck and enamel. The enamel is the softest bright pink with gold decorative detailing and unscrews to reveal a compartment within, likely originally used for a sweet smelling sponge.
The locket is pinchbeck; a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, that has been mixed to give it the look of gold and invented by Christopher Pinchbeck in the 18th Century. It was commonly used during this period to create affordable items of jewellery.
This egg has a firm screw fastening and a rotating bail to allow it to be admired from all angles. The chain pictured is for display only.
