Georgian Pinchbeck Urn Locket
A stunning pendant from the Georgian period, c1820s. The pendant is an urn and has been made out of pinchbeck. Pinchbeck is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, that has been mixed to give it the look of gold. It was popular during the Georgian period as a less expensive alternative to gold. This particular urn is beautifully made with stunning repoussé work all around and a hinged lid that opens to reveal a little cavity inside. This could be used to place your own momento inside. The urn hangs on a double chain that feeds through the handles and has the original tiny twisted connector (within the chain) and bail.
The chain pictured is for display only.
Details:
Materials - Pinchbeck
Age - Early 19th Century
Size - The urn measures approx 34mm high by 31mm wide. The chain makes the length 65mm from the top of the bail to the bottom of the urn.
Condition - Very good. Wear commensurate with age. Overall excellent condition.
Weight - 13g
