Georgian Urn Locket Mourning Ring

£0.00
sold out

A wonderful and rare example of a Georgian mourning ring. The ring is made from 15ct gold and has an inscription to the back, which has worn over time, though is still mostly legible. It says ‘Never Despair, EF, Ob. 29 Sep, -80-’. The first and final part of the date are very faint or missing, but I believe it could be 1804. The ring has a black enamel panel to the top that has certainly seen some life and is not perfect. It contains a little urn shaped frame with a glass front that can be removed revealing a locket compartment. There are three silver balls to the sides and bottom. The top silver ball has a little diamond set within it. The locket front sits comfortably in its frame and is secure.

This ring should be worn with care due to the locket front and the condition of the enamel.

Details:

Materials - 15ct Gold (tested), Black Enamel, Silver, Diamond

Age - Early 19th Century, possibly 1804

Size - The front black panel measures approx 13mm by 10.5mm. The little urn locket is approx 4.8mm high by 5.8mm wide

Ring Size - UK N 3/4 US 7 This ring could be resized a little, though I would prefer not to do this due to the delicacy of the top.

Condition - Fair. The black enamel is damaged though no gold appears to be showing through. Please see the pictures. The top panel may have been attached by lead; this would be original to the piece. The price has been adjusted according to these condition notes.

Weight - 2.93g
