Late Georgian In Memory Of Ring

£0.00
sold out

What a beautiful and thought-provoking ring this is. This stunning band is made from solid 18ct gold and is a memorial ring for, what appears to be, part of the same family. The ring has the words 'In Memory Of' through the centre in a gothic script, punctuated with a flower. The background of the lettering has a ribbed pattern and the ring is complete with chased edging. The lettering would have originally been enamelled and there are remnants there, and the writing is still very distinct. Inside the band there are full English hallmarks for London 1827 as well as an inscription for four people. They are:

Margaret Blake Ob 27 Oct 1825 Aet 65

George Blake Ob 14 March 1826 Aet 67

Ann Tell Ob 20 April 1828 Aet 36

Henrietta Blake Ob 10 July 1828 Aet 34

It appears they are all from the same family (perhaps Tell was a married name). What befell this family? I have searched to find out, but to no avail. I find it beautiful that all four names appear on the same ring and in such detail. A true treasure.

Details:

Materials - 18ct Gold (full hallmarks)

Age - Dated London 1827

Size - The ring measures approx 9mm wide.

Ring Size - UK R US 8 3/4 This ring cannot be resized.

Condition - Good. This ring has been well loved and the price has been adjusted accordingly. The enamel is all but lost, though the lettering is distinct. There is some damage in one area on the inside of the band and this has made the chased edging lift in a spot. It cannot be felt when worn. All is secure and this is noted for accuracy only. Please view the photos carefully.

Weight - 6.45g
