A rare and unusual find from the late Georgian period, c1830s. The locket is made from solid 15ct gold and has been made in the shape of an ornate purse. The purse has beautifully applied leaves and flowers in contrasting rose and yellow gold with a turquoise gemstone set at the centre front and the word ‘Souvenir’ engraved into the gold. Souvenir is French for memory.
The purse has a hollow construction as the top flap opens on a hinge to reveal a locket compartment inside. It is ideal for a love note or personal photo. The purse hangs on a little textured belcher chain and sits beautifully on the neck. A wonderful collectors item, rare to find these days.

Size - The purse measures approx 16mm high, excluding the little chain and bail, and is around 18mm wide. The chain and bail increases the length to 32mm
Condition - Good. The back of the purse exhibits come dents. Please see the pictures. The turquoise has a split through the centre, though it is secure in place.
