An absolutely spectacular pendant from the Victorian period. The pendant is Austro-Hungarian in origin and is made from 930 silver, marked on the back of the drop. The pendant is a large swallow with wonderful green and orange enamel to both the front and the back. At the centre is a large cushion cut soft lilac sapphire. The natural sapphire is in excellent condition and measures approx 7mm by 8mm making it around 2cts. An extra little sapphire of a similar colour is set into the head of the bird and the wings are edged in natural emeralds. Finally the tail is set with two natural rubies. The gemstones look to be all original and are in excellent condition overall with minimal wear throughout.
The swallow is complete with the original pearl studded chain and the enamel bail. Hanging from the bird’s beak is a little tear drop shaped setting with a piece of mother of pearl inside. As far as I can see, the whole piece is in its original form and is truly stunning on the neck.
