A wonderful ring from the late Victorian period, c1880. The ring is made from 15ct gold and the shank has a thick, quality hollow construction; a common method of construction during this period. It has a beautiful sardonyx set to the top, cut in a marquise shape. The sardonyx is predominantly white to the surface with a pretty orange border. It is set in a closed back setting and the ring has a beautiful relief design in the shoulders.
To the back of the setting, an inscription has been engraved. It says ‘presented by a friend’ in a decorative script. This has such a lovely sentiment and means as much today as it would have done at the time. A beautiful, chunky ring with plenty of meaning.
