A beautiful locket from the Victorian period. The locket is made from solid 15ct gold and it has a lovely bloom to the colour. The focal point is a lovely pietra dura mosaic, which depicts a white rose at the centre with little forget-me-not flowers off to one side.
Pietra Dura is the technique of using semi-precious stones and marble to create pretty designs and is often referred to as ‘painting in stone’. In this example the background is black marble with white marble and turquoise to create the main design.
The pietra dura sits in a wonderful decorative frame with gold wire decoration. To the back there is a lovely hinged door that opens to allow you to place your own photo inside. The locket is in beautiful condition and has its original large bail, which only adds to the look.

Size - The locket measures approx 36mm by 30mm. The bail increases the length to 51mm.
Condition - Excellent. There is a little loss to the bloom of the gold where the gold carat has been tested. This does not detract from the overall piece at all.
