Victorian Essex Crystal Spaniel Pendant

An absolutely beautiful example of this style of pendant from the late Victorian period. The pendant is made from solid 18ct gold, with a little 18 to mark it on the back. In this lovely setting sits a beautifully painted reverse intaglio, commonly know as an Essex Crystal. The technique is mistakenly attributed to William Essex who was a skilled miniaturist to Queen Victoria. This is a beautiful example with plenty of life and skill in this wonderful carved painting, particularly to the Spaniel's expression.
