Victorian 'Forget-Me-Not' Ring
A lovely, sentimental ring from the mid Victorian period. The ring is made from 9ct gold and has pretty repoussé shoulders with lovely floral details. At the centre is a carved banded onyx with a little forget-me-not flower picked out in white relief against the darkness of the black onyx. One petal is less white than the other, though this looks to be the original carving. At the back is a little locket. The frame is still present, though the glass is long gone. As such, it would be difficult to use this for its intended purpose as there is no cover.
The ring is engraved on the inside of the shank with the words, ‘In memory of a dear sister’.
