Victorian Garnet & Pearl Ring
A pretty and classic ring from the Victorian period. c1890s. The ring is made from 9ct gold and has the remnants of the hallmark on the inside of the shank. It is a typically Victorian design with a decorative mount and little seed pearl accents. There are two larger garnets set in the centre with little garnets on either end. One of the large garnets looks to be a replacement to the original as one is a flat cut and the other is faceted. It is likely that the flat cut is the replacement as the outer garnets appear to have the same facet cut as the other central gemstone. The stones are an excellent match and it is difficult to know for sure whether it is a replacement or whether the original jeweller went for this set of stones for their colour match, as could often be the case.
The ring is complete with some decorative engraving in the shoulders of the shank. It looks great in a stack or alone and is a lovely traditional antique example.
