A pretty ball pendant from the Victorian period. The pendant is made from solid 9ct gold with a slightly higher gold wash and is a pomander. It opens on a hinge at the base of the bail and has a hollow compartment within that would have held a piece of scented cotton or sponge. This could be smelt as required through the little holes in the ball design and warded off the less than pleasant smells of the day.
The ball has a fingernail dip to allow you to open it and has a good firm closure. In fact the closure is so firm you may need a little penknife to gently clip is open.
The chain pictured is for display only.
Details:

Age - Victorian
Size - The ball is approx 16mm in diameter

Weight - 3.3g
