A gorgeous ring from the Victorian period with full English hallmarks for Birmingham 1875. The ring is made from solid 15ct gold and is a lovely statement shape with a medium width band and an oval setting. It is set with a lovely cabochon goldstone, which sparkles prettily in the sunlight. Goldstone is a type of manmade glass that is infused with mineral crystals (often cobalt or copper) to create a glittering effect.
This ring has a lovely engraving on the inside of the band. It reads’ A Robertson/ By a few friends/ Helensburgh 29th June 1877. Helensburgh is a town in Scotland and it is likely this inscription relates to this town.
