An absolutely wonderful locket from the late Victorian period. The locket is stamped with a French owl hallmark indicating 14kt gold and has a lovely, solid feel. It is an elegant heart shape with a red enamel detail following the line of the heart and a ‘v’ of rose diamonds to the front highlighting the edge. The side edges of the locket are fluted following the line of the diamonds. At the centre is a trilogy of old cut diamonds, which is topped by a little snake resting its head at the centre. The heart opens on a hidden hinge to reveal two small circular frames within. They each have their original glass. Such a spectacular locket; I have not seen another quite like it.

Size - The locket measures approx 19mm high, including the snake’s body, but excluding the bail, by around 14mm wide. The bail makes the length 25mm.
Condition - Very good. There seems to be a little ‘darkness’ to the base of the snake at the back. This could be a little lead, though it does not show to the naked eye particularly and is only visible from the back through a loupe.
