A gorgeous seal from the Victorian period, dated Birmingham 1875. The seal is made from solid 9ct gold and has full English hallmarks on the top of the base, with a makers mark of MW&S, likely Matthew Wilcox & Son. It has a deep red carnelian set into the oval base and a pair of intertwined snake ‘twins’ to the top. The snakes are beautifully coiled and their heads meet at the top creating a bail. Both have little googly eyes and are full of expression.
The chain pictured is for display only. The pendant hangs a little askew on a chain; please see the worn picture for reference.

Size - The base measures approx 20mm by 16.5mm. The seal is around 21.5mm high.
Condition - Very good. There appears to be two very small holes in the top of the base, hidden by the snakes and noted for accuracy only. There may have possibly been an added bail previously on top of the snake heads.
