Victorian 'Mizpah' Ring
A striking ring from the Victorian period, dated Birmingham 1881. The ring is made from solid 9ct gold and has a full English hallmark. It is a lovely band ring and is the same width all the way around. The band is rather decorative with fine scroll engraving all the way around and beading to the top and bottom edge. Across the top, the word ‘Mizpah’ is picked out in solid block lettering. Mizpah is a Hebrew word meaning ‘watchtower’ and is often interpreted as ‘May God watch over you’. It was often given to a loved one as a symbol of a bond between two people.
This ring is a lovely example as the block lettering is in contrast with the decorative band; a pretty juxtaposition. Great in a stack or worn alone.
