A charming pendant from the Victorian period, made in Vienna, Austria. The pendant has a lovely puffy shape and is made from solid silver, which is gilded to the inside, and covered with enamel. The enamel is painted with two different scenes, back and front, of a lady and a gentleman at leisure.
The pendant has a hinged lid, which opens to reveal the vinaigrette within. It has a decorative pierced grille, which can be lifted out and would have had a perfume soaked sponge within. Vinaigrettes were carried as a matter of course to allow the owner to carry a more fragrant smell than those that often surrounded them.
The lid has an origin mark (A) and the makers mark SG stamped into the lid. The chains pictured are for display only.

Size - The vinaigrette measures approx 22mm in diameter. It is around 12mm deep.
Condition - Good. Some spots of damage to the back enamel, close to the edge, noted for accuracy only and fairly well hidden within the painting. Please see the pictures.
