Victorian Pineapple Lava Earrings

£450.00

A stunning pair of earrings from the early Victorian period, c1840s. The earrings would likely have been purchased on a Grand Tour to Italy and are made from volcanic ash, commonly known as lava jewellery. The carving to the exterior is in the form of a ‘pineapple’ pattern. Pineapples were fascinating to the Victorians and, as was often the case, this interest was represented in their jewellery. These lava drops are held in 18ct gold mounts, which have been elegantly made, and have replacement 9ct gold hooks.
