A gorgeous fob seal from the late Georgian/early Victorian period. The seal is made from 15ct gold cased metal, meaning that it has metal inside and is covered with a thick layer of 15ct gold. This is often the case with seals such as this. It has a beautiful reeded design that is in lovely condition with only a little wear to the gold casing on the central foliate design. The fob has a pretty purple amethyst set into the base with a rebus puzzle engraved into it. The puzzle features a picture of an eye, an X with speckles around it and the word return with a line through it. This is to send the message ‘I expect a line in return’.
I love the fun messages that these rebus puzzles portray and am always pleased to find one, particularly in such a nice mount.
The chains pictured are for display only.
