Victorian Snake & Star Bracelet
A beautiful bracelet from the Victorian period. The bracelet is made from 800 silver that has been gilded to appear as gold and is in the form of a snake. The gilded silver has been woven to form a ‘mesh’ body that has some flexibility allowing it to be wrapped around your wrist. This is studded with stars at regular intervals along the length. The snake is complete with a little solid silver gilt tail and a stylised head.
The head exhibits beautiful engraving to form the patterns of the skin, and teeth and a forked tongue are visible through the open mouth. The snake is finished with red glass eyes. It clings to the wrist well and stays in position as expected.
Details:
Materials - 800 Gilded Silver (marked), Glass
Age - Late Victorian
Size - The bracelet is approx 7mm wide. The head is around 16.5mm by 10mm. It would fit most wrists due to the flexibility of the snake.
Condition - Very good. Minimal wear commensurate with age. A little undulation in one area of the mesh; still firm and in good condition. A little scratch mark in the tail, possibly from a previous metal test. Noted for accuracy only and not detrimental at all.
Weight - 20.88g
