A most amazing pair of earrings from the late Victorian period. The earrings are a wonderful statement made from gold coloured metal with faceted saphiret stones set throughout. The saphiret is the wonderful blue/brown colour that you would expect from this amazing and rare glass and is in beautiful condition. The earrings have a stunning 3D form with a ball shape to the top and a waterfall foliate design as the main design. They have large shepherds hooks and look as if they have hardly been worn.
Saphiret is a rare dichroic glass created in the mid to late 19th Century. It originates from Czech Republic and is made by fusing gold into molten sapphire-coloured blue glass. The effect is rather spectacular and these pieces tend to be very collectible. I have never seen anything quite like these earrings.
Details:
Materials - Gold Coloured Metal, Saphiret
Age - Late Victorian
Size - The earrings measure approx 67mm from the top of the hook to the bottom of the saphiret drops. They are around 22mm wide at the widest point.
Condition - Excellent. Minimal wear commensurate with age
Weight - 30.9g
