Victorian Tortoiseshell Shakudo Locket

£750.00

An absolutely stunning locket from the Victorian period. The locket is predominantly made from tortoiseshell and is a lovely large rectangular shape. At the centre is a panel of shakudo depicting a basket of flowers. Shakudo is a Japanese alloy and involves a technique of inlaying gold and silver into a darkened copper base. This is the first time I have seen shakudo combined with tortoiseshell and the result is super striking.

To the back, there is an oval glass fronted locket that can be slipped out to place your own photo inside. The locket is in gorgeous condition and a rare item for sure.

The chain pictured is for display only.
