Victorian Turquoise & Pearl 'Question Mark'

A stunning pendant from the late Victorian period. This pendant likely started life as something else, probably a brooch, though it came to me as it is. It is made from 15ct gold with the turquoise set in silver and actually depicts a sickle, though I love the thought of it being a question mark. The natural turquoise and pearls are super quality and this combination is always striking.

The sickle came to be a sign of a good harvest, though it is, of course, linked to mourning too. The association with death is a stark contrast to the vibrant turquoise and the purity of the pearls in this lovely pendant and its feeling of positivity cannot be ignored. It is a lovely large size, making a real statement on a chain, and is in beautiful condition.

All chains pictured are for display only.
