Vintage Niello Compass Pendant

£0.00
sold out

A lovely pendant from the first half of the 20th Century. The pendant is a seemingly working compass, which sits in a niello and silver setting. Niello is a black compound of sulphur with silver, lead or copper to create a black alloy that contrasts beautifully with silver. You often see the two together in a checkerboard effect, as is shown here, or as stripes. I love how this pendant looks with the niello checkerboard pattern facing out allowing the compass to remain a secret.

The chains pictured are for display only.

Details:

Materials - Silver, Niello, Glass

Age - Early half of the 20th Century

Size - The compass measures approx 21mm in diameter.

Condition - Good. Some scratches to the glass. The compass can still be read with ease. Some wear here and there, commensurate with age.

Weight - 6.81g
