A wonderful clover pendant from the middle of the 20th Century. The pendant is French in origin and is made from solid 18ct gold, marked on the back of the bail with the eagle head hallmark. It has three gorgeous perpignan garnets set in closed back settings in a clover formation. Clovers are often given and worn as symbols of luck and this is a lovely example.
Perpignan garnets are historically known for their distinctive colour and cut and are integral to Catalan culture. They were famously mined in the French Catalan mountains close to Perpignan. The more modern pieces maintain the distinct rose cut to the gemstones, though they are often imported garnets these days as mining in this region has ceased.
Chains pictured are for display only.
Details:
Materials - 18ct Gold (marked), Garnets
Age - Mid 20th Century
Size - The clover measures approx 16mm long excluding the bail, though including the stem, and is around 15mm wide.
Condition - Excellent
Weight - 2.3g
