A wonderful and rare pendant from the early 20th Century, likely a WW1 charm. The pendant is made from solid silver and has a makers mark of W.D., likely William Davenport. It has pretty red and green enamel to the front with the words ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’ in block lettering around the outside ring and a hanging heart with a shamrock in the centre.
This famous music hall song was written in 1912 and became a hit when it was sung by the soldiers marching across France during the First World War. This pendant would have been made as a romantic good luck charm, either for a loved one at home or for a soldier sent to war. It is in beautiful condition and has a registered patent number to the back.
